Education: The Key to Future Success

The United Nations has identified 17 Sustainable Development Goals. Of these goals, Quality Education is listed 4th, behind Good Health and Wellbeing (3), Zero Hunger (2), and No Poverty (1).

In January 2016, the world officially began implementation of its action plan of sustainable development to achieve its goals to address the urgent global challenges over the next 15 years. Recognizing that education is a key to future success, both for individuals and communities, Canada has worked hard to achieve greater results.

As reported by Statistics Canada, the country has the highest proportion of college graduates compared with other Organizations of Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) countries. In 2016, 22.4% of the Canadian population aged 25 to 64 had a college diploma as the highest educational qualification, up from 20.4% in 2006. In comparison, an estimated 8% of the population among OECD countries overall had a college diploma in 2016.

When you factor in the positive increase of First Nations, lone-mothers, and new immigrants having obtained post-secondary education, we can expect that in Canada more emphasis and attainment of higher education while continue its growth.

However, much more is needed to be done specifically in low-income communities across Canada as high school dropout rates can reach up to 50% or higher.

At Resolute Clothing Co, we are supporting the UN sustainable development goals, specifically helping vulnerable youth achieve higher education, good health and wellbeing. With our customer purchasing support and the work of our charity partners working in under-resourced communities, we are confident that we, together, can see more youth attain their educational goals and achieve more prosperous futures.
